The Semifinals are here, and three of the top 4 seeded teams are as well. It shouldn’t be surprising that America, Monterrey, and Cruz Azul booked their tickets to the semifinal round after looking impressive throughout the Clausura. America even overcame the Pachuca curse with late-minute heroics from none other than Julian Quinones. Now they turn their focus to the team that some are surprised to see here… the Rojiblancos from Guadalajara. Yes, that’s right, we get a 9th Clasico Nacional within 1-year! I’m all here for it because it’s going to be special.

CABRA PICKS of the WEEK:
#1 Club America vs #6 Chivas (Leg 1, Wed, 7 pm PST)
Advantage…Chivas?
On paper, this Clasico Nacional looks very lopsided in favor of Las Aguilas. They’re the defending champions, finished this season as the #1 seed, and have the most expensive roster value in all of CONCACAF. And even in head-to-head matchups, Chivas have only won 2 out of the last 11 meetings between the two, which includes America being undefeated at the Estadio Akron in that same span. HOWEVER, this is why we play the game, because this will not go to script. Despite being the top seed, Las Aguilas have been a shadow of themselves lately, winning just 1 out of their last 6 games and have not kept a clean sheet in their last 10 games against Liga MX opponents. Meanwhile, Chivas are on a great run of form as they’ve held 7 clean sheets in their last 8 games, which includes 5 in a row, which also propelled them to upset the #3 seed Toluca in the Quarterfinals. With the revenge factor also on their side, Chivas takes the W in the first leg.
