The most polarizing man in Liga MX returns...
Your boys are back with Picks, Prop Bets, and more for Jornada 5 of Liga MX!
We’re only a few weeks into the Liga MX season and we’ve already seen enough craziness to make a telenovela screenwriter blush. Yet despite the storylines, things at the top of the table also look…very familiar.
The rest of Liga MX must be thinking, like the great Alfredo Di Stefano once said, “jugamos como nunca y perdimos como siempre”. Will we finally see a shakeup to the top three this weekend? With some BIG MARQUEE matchups on the slate, we just might. Let’s jump right into the picks and get that cash money.
PICKS of the WEEK:
#9 Toluca vs #11 Leon (SAT 3pm PST)
Toluca need to bounce back at home after suffering a 3-2 defeat vs Chivas during the week. On the other hand, Leon with a game in hand can leap Toluca in the table with a win. Both teams have some young midfield stars (Fidel Ambriz and Marcel Ruiz) who’s 1v1 battle could decide the game.
Leon may have the most in form player in the league right now Angel Mena, but winning a match at the Nemezio Diaz (Toluca’s stadium) is always one of the hardest 3 points to secure. Look for Toluca to take the W.
Prediction: Toluca 2-1 Leon
#3 Tigres vs #5 Pumas (SAT 5pm PST)
We have a top-6 matchup in El Volcan this weekend. And guess who is back? The most loved and most hated goalkeeper in Liga MX, Nahuel Guzmán. He was suspended the first three games of the season due to his antics after receiving a red card in the Final last year. Homie left us with some great memes, and I'm sure more will come in his return to action.
I would have been more excited for this game if both teams wouldn't be coming off of short weeks due to Jornada 4's scheduling. Because of that, I expect some lingering effects on Saturday that may result in fewer goals.
Prediction: Tigres 2-0 Pumas
#2 Club América vs #1 Monterrey (SAT 7pm PST)
Simply put, the game of the weekend. Matter of fact, it’s the game of the season so far. The defending champions Club América have the highest roster value in the league, and currently sit 2nd in the table. Monterrey are currently in first place ahead of Las Aguilas on goal difference, and have the 2nd highest roster value in the league. This could very well be a final preview.
Monterrey’s newest signing striker Brandon Vasquez has hit the ground running with 3 goals already, but America are the only team in the league who has yet to concede a goal. Something has to give, and we’re going with the hot hand.
Prediction: Club América 1-2 Monterrey
PROP BETS of the WEEK:
Necaxa to WIN vs FC Juarez (+215)
Necaxa are 1 of 4 teams who have not lost a game yet. They currently sit 4th place in the table and scored 2 goals in each of their away matches so far. Meanwhile, FC Juarez is the lowest scoring team in the league with 1 goal in 4 games, which includes 0 goals when playing at home.
At +215 odds, this bet on a Necaxa W almost feels like free money.
Puebla vs Mazatlán, Goal scored between 76th minute and full-time (-125)
These two are towards the bottom of the table, but let's not get it twisted, these teams can score. It won't be about if goals will be scored, it will be about when. The data shows that 18% of Puebla's goals scored and 27% (league-highest) of Mazatlán's goals scored come in this 15-minute interval.
So, instead of taking a bet with terrible odds on whether goals will occur, we are relying on the data to tell us when a goal will happen.
Pachuca to score OVER 1.5 goals vs Xolos (-130)
Los Tuzos attack has been on fire lately, thanks to the signing of Salomon Rondon, who has proven to be a great fit for Pachuca, scoring 3 goals already. They’re also coming off scoring 4 goals during the week vs Atlas. Meanwhile, Xolos have one of the worst away records in Liga MX dating back to last season.
Also, Xolos’s best defender Kevin Balanta is injured as well and might not be available for the match. Pachuca’s attack is facing a very favorable match up.
Note: IF YOU PARLAY THESE 3 BETS, $100 would payout $1,003! 🤑
(your initial $100 + $903 profit)
MEME of the WEEK:
FUN FACT OF THE WEEK:
17th-place Mazatlán has scored more goals this season, than 6th-place Cruz Azul. And 5th-place Pumas has allowed more goals than 16th-place FC Juarez.
