In case you’ve been living under a rock, Chicharito is BACK in Liga MX, returning to his boyhood club where he last played in 2010 (14 years ago…where does the time go?!).
Fans and legends alike are hyped to see the prodigal son back in Mexico…but how much of an impact will he actually have on Chivas? He wasn’t exactly lighting up the futbol pitch the last time we saw him play. That said, the hype is palpable with Chivas leading the league in headlines (if not the table quite yet) after also signing USMNT player and dual-nat Cade Cowell earlier this season.
We know your wallet is feeling a bit heavier if you’ve been following our picks to-date. Vamos cabrones and let’s keep stacking that cash with this week’s slate of games.
PICKS of the WEEK:
Xolos vs Chivas (FRI 7pm PST)
We’re starting off with a BANG and a HUGE UPSET ALERT! As mentioned above, it's been quite a week for los Chivashermanos with the return of Chicharito. However, Xolos are here to spoil the party (or should we say asada?).
Both teams are looking to secure their first wins of the season, but could the Chicharito news affect Chivas’s focus and cause them to stumble in the Estadio Caliente? Also, Xolos last season had one of the best home records in Liga MX, only behind Club America and Tigres. Look for them to shock Chivas. Sorry Rebaño fans, Chicharito is back, but your first win will have to wait.
PREDICTION // Xolos 2 - 1 Chivas
Leon vs Santos Laguna (SAT 3pm PST)
This matchup features two teams still trying to get themselves going this season. Los Guerroros from the north come into the game with only 1 point from their first two matches, while Leon (having only played one game) sits toward the bottom of the table (16th).
Although not in form, we’ll still be watching this game because we expect LOTS of goals. Leon has gone 11 games without a clean sheet (no mames) and when these teams meet, both teams scored in 9 of 10 past meetings...sheeeeesh! These teams are both desperate for a win, but they'll have to wait another week because we’re going with a (high-scoring!) draw in Guanajuato.
PREDICTION // Leon 2 - 2 Santos Laguna
Necaxa vs Club América (SAT 7pm PST)
Historically and recently, Club América has owned this matchup, winning the last six meetings between these two clubs dating back to 2021.
However, this time could be a little different, as Necaxa are currently one of the 5 teams with a perfect 6 points out of 6 start to the season. Mostly due to the young attacking duo of Ricardo Monreal and Heriberto Jurado, who will undoubtedly cause América’s defense some problems. This isn’t your typical Rayos team. Plus, with this game being played in Aguascalientes, this could be the perfect time for Necaxa to break their bad run vs Las Aguilas.
PREDICTION // Necaxa 1 - 1 Club América
PROP BETS of the WEEK:
Double Chance: Puebla Win/ Draw No Bet vs Toluca (-130 odds)
We'll be looking at the game in Estadio Cuauhtemoc for value as Toluca visits Puebla in the opening match of Jornada 3. It's obvious that Toluca is the better team overall, but they're not a strong away team, having only an 11% win rate in away matches since last season. Puebla is still not an explosive team, but they seem to get a 24% bump in scoring when playing at home. Again, this is all about finding value, and the value is on Puebla's side Friday night
Cruz Azul TO WIN vs Mazatlan (-155 odds)
Mazatlan has had a disappointing start to the season after losing the first two matches and currently sit at the bottom of the table. With some recent signings to boost the squad, and being in front of the home crowd, Cruz Azul will be extra motivated to get those much needed 3 points.
Atlas vs FC Juarez UNDER 2.5 Goals (-122 odds)
These two teams have a combined 1 goal scored this season. Yes, 1 goal. In 5 games. COMBINED! With 4 out of 5 of those games hitting the under. Until they prove otherwise, these teams can’t score goals. You gotta stick with the trend, go under.
Note: IF YOU PARLAY THESE 3 BETS, $100 would payout $530! 🤑
(your initial $100 + $430 profit)
