We’ve reached the Quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup—are you excited for it, or are you excited for the molero tour to be over? I’m hearing mixed reactions from my compas. For me, it was cool to see a Liga MX team live in my city, but I understand the unfairness it brings having all the games in the United States.
The Liga MX teams that won’t be seen in the Quarterfinals include Tigres, Pumas, Toluca, and Cruz Azul. 5 of the 7 Liga MX teams from the round of 16 lost! One was due to some Liga MX on Liga MX crime since Mazatlan (how do they keep winning?!) knocked out Cruz Azul. So now it’s down to Mazatlan and Club America to hold it down against the remaining other 4 MLS squads (Colorado, LAFC, Sounders, & Union). The games will all be played this Saturday and the CABRA boys have their locks of the week below!

Colorado Rapids vs Club America

Are the Rapids Liga MX killers?
The Rapids have knocked out Juarez and Toluca…could Club America be next? The Rapids were outplayed in both of those matches, but goalkeeping has been a big advantage for them. They won’t be able to win in a high-scoring affair, so if they have any chance they’ll need to keep the game tight. If America loses this game, it could be game over for Liga MX teams in the Leagues Cup. I’m rolling with Club America because they're the better team, well rested (skipped group stage) and Colorado won’t have a home-field advantage since this game will be played in San Diego. Let’s not overthink this one and go with the stronger squad.

Mazatlan vs Philadelphia Union

My Heart Says Mazatlan, My Wallet Says Otherwise
This is a game that I’ll be rooting for Mazatlan, there’s no doubt about that. They’re playing with a swagger and confidence that I have never seen from them before. I desperately want to side with them and throw some coin on them, but I can’t overlook the fact that the Union is the home team, and Pennsylvania is one hell of a soccer town. The stadium will be full, the stakes will be high…and I just can’t risk that all on Mazatlan. So here is my compromise: let’s just pour one out for Mazatlan and root for an ugly, low-scoring game. The Union has held clean sheets in 50% of their Leagues Cup matches, and the Under is plus odds. Let’s just be happy with what Mazatlan has done and follow the value.
