The weekend’s Liga MX action did not disappoint, capped off by a thrilling battle between Tigres UANL and Cruz Azul. Tigres secured a 2–1 victory despite going down to ten men when Nicolás Ibáñez saw red in the second half. Joaquim and Diego Lainez both found the net for Los Felinos, while Juan Rivero’s late stoppage-time goal for Cruz Azul made for a tense finale. Elsewhere, Juárez continued their strong run with a 2–1 away result at Tijuana, and Atlas edged Puebla 3–2 in a dramatic match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Key Talking Points
Tigres’ resilience after the red card was the highlight of Jornada 7, with the team showcasing impressive defensive organization to protect their lead. Necaxa’s 3–2 upset of Club América turned heads as well, illustrating that this year’s competition remains wide open. Toluca kept their home crowd happy by narrowly besting Guadalajara 2–1, whereas Monterrey continued their push toward the top of the table with a strong 4–2 victory over Querétaro. With these results, the standings begin to take shape and we see Leon, America & Tigres leading the charge.

History Repeats Itself: Why Necaxa vs. Mazatlán Should Soar Over 2.5
Necaxa has been an offensive powerhouse of late, finding the back of the net with impressive frequency. They’ve netted three or more goals in five of their last seven outings, demonstrating their firepower week in and week out. Even more telling is their matchup history with Mazatlán in Aguascalientes: the last three times these teams met at Necaxa’s home ground, the home side scored at least two goals, and every one of those meetings sailed over 2.5 total goals.
Beyond the historical head-to-head data, there’s a striking trend this season showing that Necaxa’s matches almost always produce plenty of goals. Out of their eight games thus far, seven have exceeded the 2.5-goal threshold, a remarkable statistic that highlights their attacking style and propensity for high-scoring affairs. With this run of offensive form and a favorable matchup history, taking the Over 2.5 goals looks like a strong play for the compas!
