The semifinals delivered in every sense, offering plenty of goals…and even some red card drama. After suffering a 2-1 defeat in the opening leg, Monterrey returned home and absolutely hammered San Luis with a 5-1 thrashing, turning everything around for a 6-3 aggregate win. Óliver Torres stepped up big time for Rayados with a brace, while Germán Berterame and Brandon Vázquez chipped in with key goals, along with an own goal from San Luis’s Daniel Guillén. Over in the other semi, Club América and Cruz Azul played out a wild second leg after a goalless first match. América struck early and kept the pressure on, but Cruz Azul mounted a furious comeback that included three goals in the last twenty minutes. Just when it seemed like Cruz Azul was about to brake their own curse, América’s Rodrigo Aguirre delivered late heroics with two last-gasp goals, sealing a 4-3 aggregate triumph and sending Las Águilas into the final. Serious question, compas…is this the best Liguilla ever??

Club América Secures Narrow Advantage in Thrilling First Leg Against Monterrey
Club América emerged victorious in the first leg of the Liga MX semifinal against Monterrey, securing a 2-1 win at home. Despite conceding early to a well-placed strike from Sergio Canales in the 35th minute, América rallied back with a perfect response. Kevin Álvarez (tha god) equalized with a precise shot in the 39th minute, and Alejandro Zendejas completed the turnaround just after halftime, netting the decisive goal in the 49th minute.
The match was marked by América's attack, as they registered 13 shots (6 on target) compared to just Monterrey's six. Monterrey slightly edged possession with 53% but managed just one shot on target, reflecting América's continued dominance in key liguilla moments. Compas…I think America is just built different. I can’t even hate.

The Championship Feels Inevitable
Club América has been relentless this postseason, dismantling 2nd-seed Toluca and toppling a record-breaking Cruz Azul. Now, with a 2-1 advantage over Monterrey heading into the second leg, América has their sights firmly set on securing a place in history. Monterrey, struggling to create meaningful chances against América’s rock-solid defense, faces an uphill battle. To seal the deal, América must remain disciplined, shutting down key threats like Sergio Canales while leaning on Kevin Álvarez and Alejandro Zendejas to exploit defensive gaps and convert critical opportunities.
Possession will be another key area for América to dominate, as Monterrey narrowly edged them in the first leg. By dictating the tempo and sustaining offensive pressure, América can neutralize their opponents and keep creating chances of their own. Simply put, América is playing the best soccer in the league right now—and if they stay the course, the championship is theirs to lose.
