Jornada 9 Recap
Mid-week action in the Clausura heated up as Liga MX delivered plenty of goals and a few surprises in Jornada 9. Leon maintained its hold on first place with another strong performance, while second-place Club América kept pace with a convincing win of its own. Toluca’s high-powered offense came alive in a dominant 5-0 victory over Querétaro, pushing them into the top three on goal difference. Meanwhile, further down the standings, Tijuana bested Pumas in a 4-2 thriller, and Mazatlán earned a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over a struggling Monterrey side.
Key Talking Points
One of the most eye-catching results of the round came from Juárez, who pulled off a shock 1-0 upset against Tigres. Despite having 60% possession and taking 19 total shots, Tigres could not break through Juárez’s resolute defense, which benefited from an excellent performance by the goalkeeper (six saves). Guilherme Castilho’s 40th-minute strike sealed the victory, lifting Juárez into the middle of the table and leaving Tigres looking for answers after dropping a match they largely controlled.
Preview of Jornada 10
At the top, the marquee matchup sees second-place Club América (20 points) host free-scoring Toluca (18 points), as both eye a statement win in the race to catch table-topping Leon. Necaxa hosts Tigres in a contest that could shake up the upper half of the standings, while Leon defends its place at the summit against Tijuana. Elsewhere, Mazatlán faces Cruz Azul hoping to build on their recent win, and Juárez looks to keep momentum against reigning champions Pachuca. The weekend also features classic rivalries and must-win scenarios for those lower in the table: Pumas hosts Guadalajara in a showdown with mid-table implications, Monterrey aims to rebound at home against Santos Laguna, and Atlas battles San Luis for a shot at climbing out of the bottom tier. With so many teams tightly packed in the standings, Jornada 10 could significantly reshape the playoff picture.

LOCK of the WEEK:
Leon vs Tijuana
Saturday, 5 pm PST
Tijuana’s Drought Meets León’s Dominance
León is riding a wave of unstoppable momentum that makes them a prime candidate for a home victory over Tijuana. They’re currently unbeaten in their last nine games on home turf, having turned Estadio León into a fortress where they’ve scored in four straight matches. In total, they’ve racked up 11 points from their last five fixtures, netting nine goals in the process. That means an average of 2.2 points per match, which underscores their reliability at grinding out strong results. The offense has been firing, with León scoring in 10 consecutive encounters overall—so it’s no surprise they head into this matchup full of confidence and form.
On the other side, Tijuana has struggled mightily, particularly away from home, failing to record a single road victory since 2019. They’ve picked up zero points from their last five league outings, conceding too many goals and failing to find the net in two of those games. Even when Xolos do manage to score, their leaky back line can’t keep pace, leading to continued disappointment. With no sign of a turnaround in sight, and León’s rock-solid home record, it’s hard to see Tijuana escaping with a result here—making a León win the clear choice for anyone looking to place a smart bet.
