Opening Week of Liga MX: Anticipated Tijuana-Toluca Clash, Miguel Herrera is back!?
Picks, Memes, and more! >>
We’re back, compas! Liga MX returns with Jornada 1 featuring a full slate of intriguing matchups. On Friday, Querétaro seeks redemption after a lackluster finish last tournament when they host three-time defending champions Club América at Estadio Corregidora. Meanwhile, Mazatlán FC faces FC Juárez, with both clubs eager to rise from last season’s lower-half struggles. Later that evening, Tijuana takes on last year’s regular-season runners-up Toluca—who crashed out in the playoffs—in one of the week’s most anticipated showdowns; for the Xolos, it’s a chance to back up their impressive Liguilla run with an early statement. Saturday sees Atlético de San Luis facing Tigres UANL, each looking to build on solid top-six finishes before Guadalajara locks horns with Santos at Estadio Akron. The day wraps up with record-setting Cruz Azul—riding high after a 42-point campaign—hosting Atlas in Mexico City. Sunday’s slate features Pumas UNAM battling Necaxa in the capital before Monterrey closes out the weekend against Puebla at Estadio BBVA.
The game of the week is Friday’s Tijuana vs. Toluca matchup. Tijuana barely sneaked into the playoffs last season before a respectable postseason run, and they’ll be determined to prove they can hang with the league’s best from the opening whistle. Toluca, meanwhile, notched a +22 goal differential last year, backed by an attack that racked up 38 goals. Expect a high-octane showdown in this border-town clash as both sides aim to make a statement right away.
Random note: In international news, Costa Rica just appointed former Mexico boss Miguel Herrera—who led El Tri at the 2014 World Cup—as head coach, hoping his energy and experience can revitalize Los Ticos following their quarterfinal exit in the Gold Cup and a disappointing 2022 World Cup showing.
As always, the CABRA boys have your best bets lined up for the weekend below!
I wish these were the new Liga MX transfers

LOCK of the WEEK:
Chivas vs Santos
Saturday, 5 pm PST
Alan Pulido To The Rescue For Chivas? Nah…
As Chivas faces Santos Laguna in their upcoming clash, I think can expect a tightly contested, low-scoring match. Historically, these teams have favored defensive battles, with under 2.5 goals recorded in 9 of their last 11 meetings. Last season, Santos struggled offensively, finishing as the lowest-scoring team in the league and securing last place, which reinforces the likelihood of another defensive showdown. Chivas, traditionally known for their attacking prowess, went out and added a WASHED Alan Pulido, so I’m not expecting much from him. With both teams showing difficulties in front of goal and a history of low-scoring encounters, the match is set to be a defense-oriented game where goals will be scarce.
Hat Trick Chris Lock of the Week:
Chivas/Santos UNDER 2.5 Goals (+115, 1 Unit)
