Monterrey tops América, Chivas stay hot, and the playoff race gets tight
Jornada 16 delivered some big results as teams fight for playoff positioning. Monterrey defended home turf with a key 1-0 win over Club América, thanks to a second-half goal from Nelson Deossa. The win not only gives Rayados momentum heading into the final week, but also hands América their second loss of the season. Elsewhere, Chivas continued their solid run with a 1-0 victory over Puebla, while Pumas took care of business with a clean 2-0 win over Santos. Cruz Azul edged León 2-1 in a match that saw León go down to 10 men, and Atlas picked up a clutch 2-1 win in Querétaro to keep their top-6 hopes alive. Meanwhile, Juárez and Necaxa split points in a 2-2 draw that may hurt both their chances.
Monterrey vs. América: A showdown with liguilla energy
This match had all the intensity you’d expect from two top-tier clubs. América controlled possession and had slightly better passing numbers, but Monterrey created more danger and ultimately found the breakthrough. Rayados took 15 shots to América’s 6 and stayed disciplined throughout. Malagón kept the visitors in the game with a couple of spectacular saves, but Deossa’s 75th-minute goal proved to be the difference. The win was a statement from Monterrey, who are aiming to close the season strong and head into the playoffs as serious contenders.
Looking ahead: A stacked Jornada 17 with everything on the line
The final matchday is packed with playoff implications. The most important game? Atlas vs. Chivas, Saturday at 9:15 PM. Not only is it El Clásico Tapatío, but both clubs are neck-and-neck in the standings, fighting to finish in the top 6 and avoid the play-in round. Expect intensity, pride, and playoff energy from start to finish. Also key: Tigres vs. Pumas, where UNAM must get a result to stay in the hunt, and Toluca vs. Cruz Azul, a direct battle between two playoff-bound squads looking for better seeding. América will try to bounce back against Mazatlán, while León hosts Monterrey in another high-stakes matchup.
With so much still undecided, Jornada 17 is shaping up to be one of the most dramatic finales in recent memory. Buckle up.

LOCK of the WEEK:
San Luis vs Pachuca
Sunday, 6 pm PST
🐍 Trust No One... Except Pachuca
This is what we call a generational lock. You don’t ask questions — you just place the bet, turn off your phone, and go for a walk like everything’s fine. Yes, San Luis have somehow managed to play an entire season without a single draw (seriously, who does that?), and no — they’re not about to start now. Pachuca has everything on the line trying to dodge the play-in, and they’ve only lost once in their last eight. That’s not form, that’s destiny. If this game were a telenovela, Pachuca would be the main character surviving against all odds and San Luis would be the dramatic ex getting kicked out halfway through the episode.
Yeah, yeah, the data nerds are gonna say “but San Luis is great at home” and “Pachuca stinks away.” Don’t care. This is vibes-only betting. Pachuca’s coming in like it’s a finals match and San Luis is already mentally in Cancún. If San Luis manages to pull out a win here, I’ll personally write them a handwritten apology and frame it. Until then — 5 units, all aboard the Pachuca train. Choo choo.
