Jornada 9 is here, and what a week it’s been! With a jam-packed schedule, including a mid-week jornada, there’s been no shortage of action. Monterrey has climbed to the top of the table with consecutive wins over Santos and Juárez, setting up an exciting battle with Cruz Azul for the top spot. Club América also looks to be shaking off their championship hangover, picking up two wins, including a commanding performance against Chivas despite only 33% possession. The big question remains: are they true contenders this season?
Toluca and Tigres are two teams that have caught my attention as they continue to cement their places near the top. Despite mid-week setbacks, both had impressive Jornada 7 performances. Toluca, in particular, has been lethal in front of goal, dismantling Xolos—a team I considered a serious dark horse. At this stage of the season, we usually see one team start to pull away, but this year, it’s still wide open, with four or five teams looking like genuine contenders. Who’s your pick to win it all?
As always, the CABRA boys are here with the best bets to lock in for the weekend!
Compa Garrett’s LOCK of the WEEK:
Necaxa vs Club America
Saturday, 6 pm PST
Club América’s Inconsistencies Will Be Tested by a Resilient Necaxa Squad
We’ve been perfect this season, so let’s keep the momentum going, compas! Club América is riding high after back-to-back victories in Jornada 7 and 8 against the Jalisco teams, Chivas and Atlas. While their recent wins are impressive, something still feels off. They’re spreading the goals around, and showcasing solid team play, but they haven’t found that consistent goalscorer to rely on each week.
Necaxa, on the other hand, may have an underwhelming record, but they’ve been finding the back of the net consistently, scoring in their last four games and tallying eight goals in their last five. They’re also a tough opponent at home, winning three of their last four matches and narrowly losing 1-0 to a strong Monterrey side. While Club América is finding their form, they’re not fully back yet. I’m taking Necaxa at home to either win or draw against Las Águilas.
Feeling extra spicy? I love the over 2.5 goals in this one too…sprinkle a little on that too, compas.
